Teradata Temporal

The idea behind the use of temporal data is to better understand the time dimension of data that exists within the warehouse. Many companies already do this through "effective date" processing, but that method is complex, and some special skills are required to do it correctly, efficiently, and effectively. The optional temporal implementation in Teradata 13.10 makes it easier and, therefore, more practical.

Businesses often overwrite critical pieces of historical data related to customer behavior and market conditions. Teradata’s time-aware, temporal database capability empowers customers to capture, track and analyze change history of evolving business data to create a full picture of the company’s business. Analyzing the full history rather than just the most current updates reveals a true picture at any specific point in time. In doing so, customers gain greater visibility into data while reducing expense, implementation time, and data errors. Temporal analytics provides powerful capabilities for various types of customers requiring complex historical tracking and analysis functions. Teradata Temporal that lets you:

  • Gain richer, more meaningful analysis that reflects time-based changes in your business and environment
  • Eliminate complexity that increases development costs, delays applications, and complicates queries, ETL, and data maintenance
  • Take advantage of your database to automatically track history and understand changes over time

Teradata Temporal helps all industries, for example:

  • Retailers – Do consistent year-over-year sales comparisons even as products are moved from one category to another.
  • Insurers – Easily understand which customers had policies on a certain date, including those with changes made retroactively or in advance of the effective date.
  • Manufacturers – Create more meaningful sales performance reports using sales territory realignment history.

Teradata Professional Services can help our customers implement the temporal option via two services: requirements assessment and implementation services.
